The Last Gun I'll Ever Need!!

The Last Gun I'll Ever Need!!

How many times has my wife heard that? Too many I think. As I had mentioned in a recent article, "Paintball, An Addiction?" I, like many beginning paintballers ventured to the local Wal-Mart to purchase the $20.00 Blade pump action paintball marker. The price tag was perfect along with the $8.00 I spent on 200 balls. All my friends had a blade, so this should be low cost fun. After a few weeks of playing, my friends and I realized that the blade would not be enough. So we upgraded.

One of my friends went back to Wal-Mart and purchased a Stingray. I had to top that with an ACI Griffin. When I brought the Griffin home my wife looked at me, the way they do. All married men know what I'm talking about! To that I replied this gun should do for a while!!!!

After a month of playing with our new guns and the introduction of organized field play. My friend, who seemed to be swimming in money at this point, Upgraded again. This time he brought a Spyder LT limited. Which seemed to perform better than my Griffin. Which, looking back I believe now that the performance problem was my own. Although his gun did shoot straighter at a distance. Did I mention that he also upgraded to HPA. (High Pressure Air) I was still using Co2. (Not as consistent as HPA) Anyhoo, We entered our first 3-man tournament. Did not do so well. Although I was somewhat pleased that I had achieved 4th place in the Top Gun tournament. Not bad for the first time. For some reason my Griffin was chopping balls like a butcher. I believed I could have placed higher without that problem. I think it had something to do with my attempt at a trigger job.

Not long after that I begged my wife to let me trade in the Griffin on a Bob Long Mille, also a HPA tank. This is when the famous: "This will be the last gun I'll ever need!" Statement reared its ugly head! This gun was great. Didn't chop paint. Pretty accurate for a stock barrel. It shot reasonably fast, had a short trigger pull for a non-electric marker. (Yes, I did say electric marker) This Marker lasted for quite awhile. We played more tournaments with success. A couple of first place wins and a second place win. All in all I was very pleased with my new marker. I would recommend it to any advanced rec player.

Well then it happened. The straw that broke the camels back. The event that changed the course of paintball, in my wife's eyes forever. What could it be you asked??? My teammate Iceman scored a great deal on an Angel LCD. One of those electric markers I had mentioned earlier. (Did I mention he seemed to be swimming in money?) I won't go in to any details but he got a killer deal. The money he saved could have fed a small country.

Well, he let me shoot that thing. And you guessed it I wanted one. The fact is that my wife and I just had our first child 2 months earlier. A beautiful baby boy. (Future paintballer. LOL) we just didn't have the money. The sport has already become expensive for us. I shoot a way over 200 balls per month, pay for air, and field fee so an Angel is not in the budget. Actually, you can compare the expense of paintball to that of the sport of golf. You have to spend an arm and a leg on clubs, and then you pay green fees every time you play. Which is about what you spend at the field every time you play.

So back to paintball. For the next several weeks I scanned the Internet for markers in my predetermined price range with the performance that I wanted. What I came up with was the poor mans angel. The Bushmaster 2000 generation 4 electro-pneumatic marker. Fortunately (or should I say. Unfortunately) a tax return was on the way. So I was able to get one. Of course I needed an electric hopper so the feeding of the balls could keep up with the extremely fast trigger. And of course future upgrades will be needed, barrel, bolt and grips. But I told my wife "This will be the last gun I'll ever need". At least until a marker sponsor picks us up and wants us to use their marker. Yea, we would still have to pay for the guns even with a sponsor!

So, all you wives (maybe even you husbands) don't believe them when they say: "This will be the last gun I'll ever need". Another Recent Note I must now add for the record: Now my wife owns her own Bushmaster and set up (Purple of course) Her and the other wives have now started a 3-woman team Called "Raven Angles". And they all have Bushmaster Markers! I'm sure it's the last gun they will ever have! LOL!
