Well, here is my first attempt at writing an article for the now famous Sudden Impact Paintball team from South Carolina. So, here we go. I started out in this sport 2 years ago, Christmas actually. Some
friends and I had received the notorious Blade markers from our wives,
which proved to be a fatal mistake. We would have fun popping each
other from 20 and 30 feet, running and charging at each other like
fools. Later to sit down and brag about the bruises we inflicted
upon each other.
This would be the beginning of an addiction, unknown to us or our wives. We can always blame them. (As I mentioned Before, Fatal Mistake) After a few weeks of fun. (Cheap Fun, 200 rounds of Brass Eagle balls for $8 and a $20.00 gun) Iceman's wife got a promotion and he got a Stingray semi. By the way I still had that Blade. You can guess how that went over. Iceman organized a 5 on 5 event down in the boonies at his house. Scott (a friend of mine) and I were the only ones with the Blades. Scott had borrowed Iceman's Blade. That was nice of him. Yea right, we would have been better off throwing the paintballs at people. We were up against one Stingray, one ACI F4, and six Cockers. Well let me tell you, that was no fun for me! I had a $20 pump action gun versus 11 & 12 hundred-dollar guns that shot 8 to 12 balls per second. I didn't have a chance. Oh well, I tried. My tactic was to sneak up to about 20 or 30 feet from an opponent
and shoot one shot. Had to be a good one. The sneaking up part was
easy enough to do but the one shot thing, no way! I would shoot, miss
and give my self away for a beating by about 4 or 5 paintballs every
time. After about the 5th time of getting lit up by my friend's, F4
even. I threw my Blade on the ground and said a few not so nice words.
You would think that after that paintball experience I would be through with paintball for good. No way, because of the one elimination I had all day when a guy with a Cocker charged me (bunker style) shooting balls left and right. Guess what? I was right on with that one shot! This is like the one good golf shot you had out of 18 holes. Keeps you coming back. Except well you know, Paintball, Golf. No comparison. There is nothing like the feeling of defeating an opponent, one victory that day, at least. From there, the addiction grew with each new semi-auto marker I bought. I'll go in to the gun thing in another article "This is the last gun I'll ever need". Since then I have moved up to a Griffin with a 14oz. Co2, to a Bob long Millenium. Now I have a Gen 4 Bushy (Bushmaster) with 110ccm HPA, and man, that thing shoots fast. =) Now that I'm on the tourney scene the need to pull that trigger has grown greatly. So if you ask me can Paintball be addictive? I say maybe, but my wife says, "Heck yea he is addicted!!". As a side note: My wife is now addicted to the sport! So there is hope yet!
