![]() ![]() First Glance: There is no doubting that the Pro TS is the hottest looking Piranha paintball gun for sale
on the market today. It comes in two different color styles (pictured on left). A white -
blue - black fade pattern and a white - green - black fade are both available. The
anodizing on the Pro TS is of exceptional quality and looks great out on the paintball field.
Of course all the stylish anodizing does have its drawbacks. The Pro TS will not only stick
out in the crowd and turns players heads on the sidelines, but the colorful paint job can
give away your position in wooded games where camouflage is important. We would
recommend the white - green - black styling to players who desire a more camouflaged
appearance. You cant argue with the fact that the Pro TS really looks professional on
the paintball field.
Features: You cant really fit too many more upgrades onto the Pro TS since everything you ever
wanted is already standard. Let me catch my breath before I try to list all the features
packed onto the Pro TS. Okay.. here we go! The Pro TS comes with all the features of the
G3 line of paintball guns and includes; Pure Energy regulator with 1200 psi pressure
gauge, Ram Air low pressure chamber, vertical ball feed, chrome ball detent, beaver tail
sight rail, custom drop forward with 10 degree bottom line adapter, rear velocity adjuster,
air filter, and an aluminum 45 trigger frame. The Piranha engineers packed the Pro TS
with more features then any other paintball gun in their line.
Feature: Pure Energy Regulator
The Pro TS comes equipped with the Pure Energy regulator from PMI. A regulator
serves two useful purposes. 1.) It maintains a constant operating pressure in the gun. 2.) It
acts similar to an expansion chamber by keeping liquid CO2 from entering the internals of
a gun. A regulator is the next step up from an expansion chamber. Having a good
regulator like the PMI Pure Energy helps to keep the velocity between shots constant...
which in turn increased a guns accuracy. The Pure Energy regulator that comes on the
Pro TS is very well made and is an excellent feature on the gun.
Feature: Ram Air Chamber:
The Ram Air chamber is a radical, new design recently introduced to the paintball
market by PMI. The concept behind the Ram Air low pressure chamber is based on the
action of an internal spring which forces CO2 out of the low pressure chamber and back
into the valve, allowing the paintball gun to operate at a lower pressure. Lowering the
operating pressure of a paintball gun allows the balls to get a longer push out of the
barrel as opposed to a single, short pop of air. The Ram Air chamber helped to lower the output pressure of the gun, making ball breaks less likely. We shot 1000 paintballs through the Pro TS and did not have a single ball break occur.
Feature: Aluminum Trigger Frame and Trigger: The Piranha design team added in an aluminum trigger frame and trigger to the Pro TS
instead of the typical plastic frame used on many paintball guns. The aluminum frame
gives the Pro TS a very solid feel when you are playing on the field. The trigger pull on
the Pro TS is the shortest and fastest trigger we have ever seen on a Piranha paintball gun,
in fact, it feels more like the trigger on an autococker ($350) then it does on a $260 gun.
We estimated that we were able to fire about 8-9 shots per second using the shortened
pull on the Pro TS.
So it all comes down to accuracy. By far the most important test of a paintball gun is a check on the guns accuracy. We mounted the Pro TS to our test bench and made sure it did not move between shots. It was 65 degrees outside with no wind when we ran this test. We shot the Pro TS at four different ranges; 45 , 64, 85, and 105 feet. We fired 10 PMI Premium paintballs at each target. The pictures of the accuracy testing results are below.
The Pro TS did an excellent job at all 4 ranges. Even at 105 feet it held its accuracy. Many guns will begin to have balls curve at around 85 feet, but the Pro TS continued to shoot straight as an arrow. The Pro TS came out as a real winner during our accuracy testing. In fact it shot so well that we seriously doubt that an upgrade barrel could improve its accuracy. Piranha put all their best features on the Pro TS and they paid off when it came down to our accuracy tests. Velocity Consistency We securely mounted the Pro TS on our test bench and ran a string of 40 rounds to chrono the Pro TS in at about 280 feet per second. We ran this test at a temperature of 65 degrees on a sunny day with little or no wind using a 16 oz. tank of CO2. The graph below shows the velocity for each shot taken in each of the two ten shot series we recorded. The second series was fired 10 minutes after we completed the first series of shots. The Pro TS showed a great performance on the chronograph. It was very consistent with
most shots staying within 3 feet per second of the previous shot. We can attribute much of
the good performance to the addition of the Pure Energy regulator on the Pro TS.
Having a constant velocity plays a large part in a guns accuracy, and as we saw in the
accuracy testing, the Pro TS can be very accurate.
Field Stripping & Maintenance The Pro TS strips down like most every Piranha. It is very easy to remove the bolt and
clean. The entire bolt and striker assembly can be removed in about 5 seconds via the
removal of the small field strip pin that is easily pushed out using your finger. PMI has a
very good owners manual that does an excellent job of walking you through the steps of
cleaning and maintaining the Pro TS. The manual also includes how to take apart,
maintain, and adjust the Pure Energy regulator includes on the Pro TS.
Reinserting the bolt and striker on the Pro TS is easier then it is on any Spyder guns since
the Pro TS has a sear release slide. The sear release allows the striker to smoothly slide
over the trigger. The Piranhas bolt and striker can be quickly disassembled, cleaned, and
reassembled in about 5 minutes.
Balance and Field Performance The Pro TS performed very well throughout our PGR testing gauntlet, so it was
now time to take it down to the paintball field and see what if could do during a few
games. We used a 12 Volt viewloader and a 16 oz CO2 tank during our field test. The first
part of the field test was to load the Pro TS with paintballs and check to see how it balanced. We put
about 150 paintballs in the hopper and noted that it balanced perfectly from side to side
and was very well balanced from front to back as well. The drop forward that comes stock
on the Pro TS helped to balance it from front to back by positioning the CO2 tank closer
to the guns center of gravity. On the field the Pro TSs compact design and good balance made it very easy to maneuver and snap shoot. After playing a few games, the Pro TS began to feel more like an autococker then a $260 semi-auto gun. We really liked playing with the Pro TS out on the field and know that it lives up to being king of the high grade semi-auto guns. |
